Michigan 911 dispatcher helps deliver baby over the phone – again

CHARLOTTE, Mich. ( WLNS ) — A Valentine’s Day 911 call captured anxiety and ultimately joy as a dispatcher guided an Eaton County family through the birth of a baby girl.

It’s the second time Eaton County dispatcher Kayelee Cavender has helped to deliver a baby from her desk. She credits the family’s hard work for the happy ending.

The words at the beginning of the call that morning caught Canvender’s attention immediately: “The baby is coming.”

She sent emergency responders to the home right away.

“Can you tell me how far along she is?” Cavender asked the caller.

“She is in labor. The water already broke and she feels the baby coming out,” the caller, the mother’s aunt, replied.

Those words showed how urgent the situation was.

“It sounded like baby was pretty much on the way and ready to go,” Cavender told WLNS , WOOD TV8’s Lansing sister station. “I can’t image. It’s very shocking to deliver a baby in your house.”
