Prep roundup: Fowlerville’s Tori Briggs hits 2 homers in each end of twin bill – again

For the second time in her Fowlerville softball career, senior Tori Briggs hit two home runs in both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday in a 12-2, 11-3 sweep of St. Johns.

Briggs broke onto the scene as a freshman on May 13, 2021 when she hit two homers in each game of a sweep against Lansing Catholic.

The Central Michigan University signee has seven homers this season to lead Livingston County and 23 for her career.

For the doubleheader, Briggs was 7-for-7 to raise her batting average to .579 and drove in 10 runs to give her 26 runs batted in this season. She had two doubles and scored six runs.

Briggs also pitched in both games. She went all five innings in the opener, striking out eight and allowing three hits. She pitched 5⅔ innings of shutout relief in the nightcap, striking out eight and giving up three hits.

Tommi Kleinschmidt was 5-for-8 and McKenna Maybee 4-for-7 for the Gladiators.

Fowlerville’s Mikey Hatfield went 8-for-8 in the doubleheader, driving in two runs and scoring three. Hatfield came into the day hitting .222, but left with a .462 average.
