Police ID man killed in shooting Saturday in Lansing

LANSING — A man who was shot and killed Saturday night in southwest Lansing has been identified as Thomas Blackmon, 35.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. in the 4000 block of MacDougal Circle, near the intersection of Waverly and Jolly roads, Lansing police said. They said a man later identified as Blackmon was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said the shooting was not a random act. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been announced.

Including Blackmon, nine people have died by violence in Lansing this year. The most recent previous killing happened May 27 in Rotary Park, when a total of seven people were shot.
