Lansing firefighter injured in overnight house fire near downtown

LANSING — A Lansing firefighter was injured overnight while fighting a house fire in the 300 block of East St. Joseph Street.

The firefighter, who was not identified by the Lansing Fire Department, suffered minor injuries and was in stable condition, the LFD said in a press release. He was transported for medical evaluation, the department said.

The department was dispatched about 3 a.m. to 313 E. St. Joseph St., between Cherry and River streets, where there are several tightly packed buildings along the north side of the street.

“Firefighters arrived to a 2.5 story wood frame residence with a heavy fire condition and flames threatening a nearby home,” the release said. “Neighbors reported that no one was home at the time and firefighters found no one inside after interior searches. It took approximately one hour to extinguish the fire.”

The home, a 2½- story, two-unit wooden building, suffered an estimated $100,000 in damage, the LFD said. There was damage on both floors inside, as well as to the exterior.
