GRAND RAPIDS — More than 1,000 people in the Lansing area were without power today after severe thunderstorms swept across the state.
At 9:50 a.m., Consumers Energy was reporting 1,195 customers without power in the DeWitt area.
In Eaton County, there were scattered outages. Between Nashville and Vermontville, about 40 customers were out of power and northeast of Eaton Rapids there was another outage of about 40 customers. An area along Davis Highway southwest of Lansing had about 65 customers without power.
The Lansing area was under a severe thunderstorm warning this morning from a system that has caused more than 148,000 power outages, according to the National Weather Service.
The Lansing Board of Water & Light reported only a few scattered outages this morning.
At 7 a.m., the NWS Grand Rapids office issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Lansing area until 8:30 a.m.
Consumers Energy was reporting more than 148,000 customers without power at 10 a.m., from Big Rapids south to Kalamazoo from Lake Michigan to the Battle Creek area.
