2 DNR officers recognized for bravery

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two conservation officers with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources have been honored for putting their lives on the line.

Sgt. Dan Bigger and Conservation Officer Logan Turner each received DNR Distinguished Service Awards at a ceremony last week in Lansing. The men were honored for their quick thinking and bravery in dangerous situations.

Turner was commended for his response to a crash on Feb. 1 in Traverse City. He arrived on scene to a two-vehicle crash where both drivers were hurt and pinned in their cars.

While attending to one of the trapped patients, oil and other flammable fluids in the vehicle caused the engine to catch fire. Turner quickly ran back to his truck, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire before it could spread.
