Greater Lansing boys soccer: Mason, DeWitt lead field for CAAC Cup

After finishing as the Division 2 state runner-up last fall, the Mason soccer has followed with another strong season.

The Bulldogs are a win away from wrapping up an outright CAAC Red title and are ranked No. 9 in Division 2 in the latest Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association state rankings.

DeWitt has also been strong and is off to a 11-1-1 start, is ranked No. 4 in Division 2 and has already wrapped up the CAAC Blue title heading into its final league game against Grand Ledge.

That success has led to Mason and DeWitt leading the field for the CAAC Cup as the top seeds in the Gold tier.

Mason is the No. 1 overall seed and handed DeWitt its lone loss of the season by a 3-0 score on Sept. 12. DeWitt, which is the defending Gold Cup champion, is the second seed and is joined by two other CAAC Blue members in the top tier — Okemos and East Lansing.

Okemos is the No. 3 seed, while East Lansing is the No. 4 seed.

Mason will host East Lansing and DeWitt will host Okemos in Gold Cup semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 1, with the title game slated for Thursday, Oct. 3.
