Amazon officially opens 1 million-square-foot Lansing-area fulfillment center

DELTA TWP. — More than three years after beginning construction, a 1 million-square-foot Amazon.com fulfillment center on 120 acres off West Mount Hope Highway is set to officially open this week.

The inbound cross dock facility, which receives inventory largely from small and medium-sized sellers, employs more than 1,200 full and part-time people, Amazon spokesperson Paula Morrison said. Employees at the facility make an average of $22 an hour, she added.

The company will celebrate the facility’s grand opening on Wednesday. The center had a soft launch previously, Morrison said.

Amazon first announced plans for the center , at W. 6500 Mt. Hope Hwy., in September 2021 and a company official initially said it would open in 2022.
