2 children among 3 dead after Thursday night crash near Grand Ledge

ONEIDA TWP. — Three people were killed Thursday night, including two children, when the van they were in did not a stop at a signed intersection and was struck by a semi tractor-trailer at the corner of Mt. Hope Highway and Cochran Road southwest of Grand Ledge, police said.

A third child and the driver of the semi were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the intersection at about 8 p.m. Thursday where a van, westbound on Mt. Hope Highway, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by a semi that was heading north on Cochran Road.

The sheriff’s office did not provide ages, genders or city of residence of any of the victims.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team “is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the release said.

Eaton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Grand Ledge Police, Roxand Township Fire Department, Grand Ledge Fire Department and EMS, Delta Township Fire Department, Vermontville Fire Department, Benton Township EMS, and U of M Sparrow Eaton Area EMS.
