Union City’s Fraley, Gaustche break cross country records at Stockbridge

STOCKBRIDGE – The Union City Chargers cross country team traveled to Stockbridge on Saturday to compete in the Stockbridge Cross Country Invitational.

It was a record setting day for both the Charger boys and girls, as individual school records were broken in each race.

In the girls race, it was senior Skyler Fraley etching her name in the Union City High School record books, breaking the school record previously held by Union City great Patti Silva, running a new record time of 19 minutes, 35.3 seconds. The old record, set by Silva at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state finals back in 1990, was set at 20:00.0 on the button. Fraley led the Charger scoring effort with her seventh-place finish in the record setting day.

Also adding to the Union City effort was Ali Gautsche in 12th place, earning a medal, in a time of 20:15.1. Rounding out the Charger scoring was Alissa Skirka in 51st place in a time of 21:54.2; Parker Williams in 57th place in a time of 22:12.1; and Carly Smith in 70th place in a time of 22:45.3.
