Man sentenced to prison for fatal 2021 shooting on west side of Lansing

LANSING — A Lansing man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the fatal shooting of another man more than three years ago on the city’s west side.

Adolfo Luiz, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and felony firearm possession in August, acknowledging he fired the bullet that killed 19-year-old Adrien Price at a home in the 1100 block of West Allegan Street during a chain of events that began earlier that morning at the same address.

On Tuesday, Ingham County Circuit Judge Clinton Canady III sentenced Luiz to prison for three years and seven months to 15 years for manslaughter, and also imposed the mandatory two-year term for felony firearm possession.

Luiz will get 531 days credit on the felony firearm sentence for the time he’s spent in jail. That sentence must be served before he begins serving the manslaughter sentence.

Price was found dead April 11, 2021, inside a vehicle that had crashed on Interstate 496 near the Pennsylvania Avenue exit. Police determined he had been shot earlier that morning at the West Allegan address, and Luiz was arrested and charged with murder the following July.
