Lansing police cruiser rolls into Grand River after foot chase

LANSING — No one was injured Saturday night when a Lansing police cruiser rolled into the Grand River.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, officers tried to stop an individual who who was riding a bike. The individual fled from officers through Adado Riverfront Park near downtown, Capt. Eric Pratl said.

Officers left their patrol vehicle to chase the person on foot and their vehicle rolled backward into the river.

The Capital Area Dive Team responded to help with the removal of the vehicle from the river.

Police arrested the suspect and they were lodged in the LPD detention center.

Pratl did not say why the officers were pursuing the individual. No other information about the individual was provided. It was not clear how much damage the police vehicle sustained.
