Complicating things could also be that processes parents learned in school aren’t used anymore, or very little. For example, math is a subject that is taught differently now, so it’s not uncommon for kids to end up teaching their parents how to do it. Nevertheless, research has shown kids are more successful in school when parents take an active interest in their homework, so, here are 6 tips to help your child when it comes to homework:

  • Set up a consistent homework routine that includes a set time and place
  • Create a dedicated study area that’s quiet and well-lit so your child can focus on their work
  • Keep distractions to a minimum; TV is off and the phone is put away
  • Keep up-to-date on the curriculum and teaching methods so you are able to assist your child with how the teacher wants it done
  • Avoid giving away the answers and instead, try your best to guide them through it
  • Provide positive reinforcement to build their confidence and motivation to want to continue with their homework
