Sherrone Moore’s Michigan mess: QB shuffle, poor offense have cut honeymoon short for Jim Harbaugh’s replacement

Michigan went from 15-0 and a national championship in 2023 to a struggle to become bowl eligible in 2024.

A lackluster performance in a 21-7 loss to Illinois in Week 8 drove that point home. The Wolverines are now 4-3 and all but out of the Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff hunt. In other words, first-year coach Sherrone Moore’s honeymoon is over heading into Saturday’s matchup against rival Michigan State.

A 7:30 p.m. ET prime-time matchup at Michigan Stadium could turn into a grim new reality with a loss. At that point, the Wolverines would be .500 with a brutal schedule in the final month of the season.

With a loss Saturday, Moore could be on a hot seat heading into 2025 if the Wolverines do not experience improvement in the final five games.
