Delta, Windsor sheriff patrols will not be impacted by Eaton County cuts

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — While most areas of Eaton County won’t have day patrols by the Eaton County Sheriff Department, Delta and Windsor Township patrols will continue without an impact.

Eaton County authorities confirmed Wednesday sheriff patrols for the county will be cut beginning December 1. But contracts with the county and two townships will keep sheriff patrols on duty and on patrol despite the county’s looming financial crisis.

“Contracts will be honored and not impacted,” says Logan Bailey, communications director for Eaton County.

Bailey says Delta Township pays the county $4,448,024 for services during 2024 and 2025. The total cost to deliver services in Delta Township is $5,966,421. Bailey says neither number includes administrative costs or technology costs.

The difference of $1,518,397 is shouldered by the county’s general fund, Bailey says.

Windsor Township, Bailey says, pays $134,570 towards an annual patrol bill of $176,767. The county general fund foots the bill for the $42,197 difference.
