LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Detectives from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department are handling the criminal investigations involving the Potterville Public Schools, a county spokesman confirms with 6 News.
“I just know our Sheriff’s Office is the lead, and they are working through everything which is quite significant,” wrote Eaton County Communications Director Logan Bailey in an email to 6 News.
Bailey was unable to confirm how many investigations were currently open or what the nature of those investigations are.
6 News first reported the district was cooperating with law enforcement investigations on November 1. At the time, officials confirmed there were multiple agencies conducting multiple criminal investigations related to the district.
The news came in conjunction with audit results that found the district’s fund balance significantly depleted from budgeted estimates presented in May and June. District Interim Superintendent Sam Sinicropi tells 6 News he does not believe any of the missing money was stolen, rather, the situation is the result of “messy bookkeeping.”
