LANSING, Mich.(WLNS)—With only a few more days until Christmas, a Mid-Michigan non-profit is gifting the community with essential items this holiday season.
Dozens of cars lined up an hour before the 2nd annual Coat and Food Drive Saturday afternoon.
Coire Luckett, President and Executive Director of Believe Family Outreach says the event’s purpose was to spread a bit of Christmas cheer and lend a helping hand to the community.
“Well there’s so many people in the area that are disadvantaged or might not have the money to get extra things, but it’s cold out, and we want everyone to be warm,” said Luckett.
Each household was given a bag of frozen vegetables and fresh meat.
She says community members also received laundry detergent, floss, deodorant, and lotion.
Luckett says they gave away 119 coats, and 350 bags of fresh chicken.
As a former teenage mother, Luckett says she understands what it’s like to face adversity, which inspired her to support struggling families.
“You have families for whatever reasons might not have the money or the resources to do this. So, to be able to impact,” said Luckett. “It’s one family at a time.”
