Former Interim MSU President receives National Medal of Science

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Teresa Woodruff, former interim president at Michigan State University, became the first MSU faculty member to receive the National Medal of Science , the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers.

Woodruff was presented with the national medal at a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C.

MSU officials said in a news release that Woodruff pioneered the science of oncofertility in 2006 so cancer patients could protect their reproductive futures. The National Library of Medicine rep orts that oncofertility is now a globally recognized medical discipline, with insurance and reimbursement available to patients and providers in many states and countries.
