LANSING, Mich.(WLNS) — An old motel-turned-shelter is housing families, and keeping them warm during these cold winter months. Homeless Angels is located on the west side of Lansing and provides resources to unhoused families in need.
Paul Miller, Director of Street Ministry for Homeless Angels, says they have 38 families housed in their motel, and that families need to stick together, especially during tough times like homelessness.
“Some of the calls we get, maybe a mom and three children sleeping in a car,” said Miller. “To even think that would be going on during this time of year is horrific, and we’re glad we’re able to help in those situations.”
Miller says they can house families of up to 8 or 9 people in one room.
“Each family has their own room, and no matter their family size,” said Miller. “We’re the only one that’s able to take larger families.”
He says, unlike other shelters, they do not separate families.
“For a family to try to get back on their feet,” said Miller. “If they were separated. It makes that process all the more difficult.”
