Snowstorm may have slight shift southeast, putting Traverse City, northwest Lower Michigan in little more snow

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is going to have a snowstorm. Some of the newest data shows cold air slipping into northwest Lower Michigan a few hours faster. This shift could bring more meaningful snow rates into the northwest corner of Lower Michigan. It also means all of us get just a touch more snow from previous thoughts yesterday.

The current storm is a classic case of a March snowstorm. The cold air is usually racing a heavy precipitation storm system coming from the southwest. In March if the cold air gets in place before the precipitation you get a big snowstorm.

The cold air will definitely be there for a lot of snow across most of the Upper Peninsula Wednesday. For Lower Michigan this storm has always seemed to have the precipitation beat the cold air, giving mostly rain but changing to snow Thursday morning…
