Lansing accuses landlord of renting unsafe homes, asks judge to intervene

LANSING — The city is accusing an East Lansing landlord of illegally renting red-tagged homes and asked a judge to intervene.

Lansing filed eight complaints in 54A District Court asking a judge to order Christian Nwobu to make immediate repairs to the properties to bring them into compliance with city rental rules. Lansing red-tags homes in the city when they are deemed by inspectors to be unsafe to live in.

A May 12 show-cause hearing has been scheduled. Nwobu could face $500 per day per violation for each of the homes under city ordinances…
