Michigan State Police: Woman who was struck by vehicle on I-75 near Luna Pier believed to be ‘lone occupant of vehicle’

LUNA PIER, Mich. — Michigan State Police investigators say they now believe the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-75 in Luna Pier Monday night was the only person involved in the incident.

Investigators initially believed a second person was involved, which resulted in the shutdown of the interstate overnight as authorities searched for whom they believed was a fleeing suspect.

MSP initially said a Customs and Border Patrol agent stopped to check on a stranded motorist around 8:30 p.m. Monday and made contact with a female driver. Shortly after, “a gunshot was heard and a male subject was observed running from the area into the nearby woods.”…
