‘The subject was not handcuffed’: Ingham County Sheriff defends deputies actions in deadly shooting

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth held a news conference regarding a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday on US-127 near Mason.

Sheriff Wrigglesworth spoke for less than three minutes and said he wouldn’t be answering any questions after the briefing.

He showed a dashcam video he said was the suspect running with knives in his hands after a vehicle that was moving in reverse.

“To be clear, the subject was not handcuffed prior to the shooting. As a matter of fact, we never even touched the subject until after force was used,” said Sheriff Wriggelsworth.

He says officers deployed a taser, but it was ineffective. “Law enforcement officers made decisions based on the totality of their circumstances, not a two-dimensional video that captures ten seconds of a 13 plus minute encounter,” said Sheriff Wiggelsworth…
