LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Former Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing, Carl Frederick Mengeling, has passed away.
“Bishop Mengeling was just an incredible blessing to this diocese, especially because of the joy that he brought and his incredible enthusiasm,” said Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, July 1 on Facebook.
“He really lived his faith, and that faith affected so many of us. It’s been a great blessing to have had him as my predecessor and to have him around all these years since I’ve been in charge. May he rest in peace.”
Bishop Mengeling was born on October 22, 1930, in Hammond, Indiana. The Diocese of Lansing says Mengeling was ordained a priest by Bishop Andrew G. Grutka on May 25, 1957, at the Cathedral of the Holy Angels in Gary, Indiana…
