A quarter of Ingham County residents rely on Medicaid, research shows

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Exactly 25% of Ingham County residents rely on Medicaid, a 2023 Georgetown study revealed.

Michigan’s most populous county, Wayne County, and home of Detroit, had the largest enrollment in Medicaid at 34.4%. Livingston County and Oakland County have the lowest rates of Medicaid enrollment at 16.8%.

Medicaid has been in the news lately after Donald Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ plans to make significant cuts to it. He signed it into law on July 4. The bill seeks to cut $1 trillion from Medicaid over the next 10 years. Cuts to Medicaid aren’t expected to take effect until 2027, after the midterm elections…
