Owners of Standish surveying company plead guilty to fraud

STANDISH, Mich. (WJRT) – Three former executives of Surveying Solutions Inc. in Standish have pleaded guilty to defrauding federal transportation funds through the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The following three suspects admitted to conspiring to defraud the U.S. Department of Transportation by overbilling millions of dollars on highway construction contracts from February 2011 to July 2019:

  • 52-year-old Jeffrey Bartlett of Standish.
  • 50-year-old Brian Bartlett of Bentley.
  • 53-year-old Andrew Semenchuk of Rives Junction.

“Today’s guilty plea highlights a calculated attempt to exploit the competitive contracting process for personal enrichment,” said Cheyvoryea Gibson, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Detroit Field Office.

The fraudulent activities involved reporting false costs and concealing ownership details to justify the overbillings, which were shared among the conspirators…
