Lansing’s rare black rhino has health scare at Potter Park Zoo

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The rare black rhino that calls Lansing home is being monitored “24-7” after a health scare at the Potter Park Zoo. Doppsee had what zoo officials called a “medical emergency” on Monday after “a very sudden decline in her health.”

In a Facebook post, the zoo says a team of veterinarians treated her for her symptoms and she is now resting in her barn.

Doppsee is part of a species that’s considered “critically endangered,” which means it is at high risk of becoming extinct. A blog post by the Zoo back in 2021 said there were only about 5,000 of them left on the planet.
