Housing advocates argue three months ‘not realistic’ for those in encampment to find a place to live

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The City of Lansing says it is working with housing advocates and state officials to find solutions for people living in a homeless encampment, even as the city pursues a lawsuit against two business owners accused of allowing the camp to remain on their property.

Despite ongoing discussions, city officials emphasize that the lawsuit will not be paused or dropped while this work continues.

Some housing advocates say they were surprised by this stance. According to advocates, Mayor Andy Schor had previously agreed to a 3-month pause on the lawsuit. They also claim the mayor promised to support the creation of a sanctioned encampment, with city backing, and to provide financial support for the Tenant Resource Center.

However, when 6 News contacted the mayor’s office to confirm these reports, a city spokesperson said the lawsuit is not paused…
