LANSING, Mich. — As the July 1 deadline for passing the education budget in Lansing came and went, school districts across Michigan remain in a state of uncertainty.
With some districts already in session and others set to start in two weeks, administrators are left in the dark about their funding for the year.
School superintendents typically plan their budgets during the summer, hiring staff and developing programs. This year, however, the lack of a finalized budget has forced districts to make difficult decisions. “Many of our schools weren’t able to fill certain positions. In some cases, there were layoffs.
