Proposal to withhold lawmaker pay for future missed deadlines fails in Michigan House

LANSING, Mich. — As state budget negotiations remain stalled in Lansing, a proposed Constitutional amendment suggests lawmaker pay be withheld if future July 1 deadlines for the state’s budget aren’t met.

However, the proposal did not reach the two-thirds majority vote required from the Michigan House to move forward.

Speaker of the House, Matt Hall (R-Richland Township), voiced his support for the amendment during a press conference Thursday, saying it would’ve helped to keep significant delays from happening in the future…
