LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Today, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II will join Superintendent of Lansing Public Schools Ben Shuldiner to serve elementary students their first lunch of the school year.
Officials say it’s all in an effort to highlight the importance of free school meals to Michigan students and families, including saving parents $850 per year, as he advocates for its inclusion in this year’s budget.
According to Lt. Gov. Gilchrist, Governor Whitmer secured free breakfast and lunch for all 1.4 million Michigan public school students in 2023. During the 2023-2024 school year, it was projected that 76.3 million breakfasts and 135.6 million lunches were served to Michigan students…
