Big Rapids man critical after being struck by armored vehicle responding to scene

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man from Big Rapids is in critical condition after his vehicle was struck by an armored vehicle responding to a police standoff.

The Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. Monday in Kalkaska. A Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s deputy was driving to a report of a barricaded suspect in a Lenco Bearcat armored vehicle when they struck an SUV at the intersection of US-131 and M-72.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 61-year-old Patrick Morlan of Big Rapids. He was taken to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City in critical condition…
