Historical society opposes Jackson school bond proposal

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Reynolds Hall has been a fixture in Jackson for generations, but a new bond proposal from Jackson Public Schools may mean major upgrades for students — and possibly the end of the historic building.

“We established this historic district in Jackson’s history to prevent buildings from being lost, and now we’re on the verge of losing one of those buildings,” said President of the Jackson County Historical Society Maurice Imhoff.

The district’s plan would include building a brand-new innovation center, designed for more modern, hands-on learning.

“State law exempts public schools from having to abide by historic district standards and review, which is why they’re able to simply tear it down without review,” Imhoff said…
