Wellness Wednesday: Treating symptoms of menopause

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – There’s a new study out on medications used to treat the symptoms of menopause.

The most common medication is hormone therapy, but many women have been wary of the treatment over concerns that it could increase the risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Mary Rosser of Columbia University Irving Medical Center believes flawed research, from about 20 years ago, overstated the risks of breast cancer because the study focused on older women. But a new study shows timing matters – a woman’s age when she starts hormone therapy, along with the dose and delivery method, can mitigate those risks substantially…
