Surveillance video appears to undermine EL police version of pepper spray incident

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — 6 News has obtained surveillance video of a pepper-spraying incident of two young menin late August that appears tochallenge the official narrative from the East Lansing Police Department.

According to a news release by police on Sept. 26, they arrested two young men on Aug. 24 after “they observed physical violence” while the two men were waiting in line outside a popular restaurant in downtown East Lansing. However, the lawyer for one of the men says the restaurants security footage shows his client acting peacefully, trying to calm his friend down and remove him from the situation.

Defense attorney Jack Rucker provided the video to 6 News Investigates. He says the video was in the possession of the city of East Lansing but was not released on Sept. 26 as part of a public release of documents and videos related to the incident…
