The skies will gradually clear during a chilling Saturday night in Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. The cooler-than-normal weather will stick around for next week.
Michigan vs. Michigan State
For those spending time in East Lansing, the forecast looks cool and dry for the big University of Michigan vs. Michigan State rivalry game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with temperatures in the upper-40s, under partly cloudy skies. Light winds will make it feel crisp; but overall, conditions will be favorable for the game. Temperatures will fall through the evening, with temperatures in the 30s after midnight in East Lansing.
Saturday night in Metro Detroit
In Metro Detroit, temperatures will also dip into the 30s. Some of the coldest spots in the Thumb will see freezing temperatures, while Metro Detroit holds in the upper-30s to near 40 degrees. Calm to light winds will keep conditions quiet overnight, though patchy frost is possible in rural locations.
Sunday
Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine. While temperatures will be in the 40s through late morning, highs will reach the lower- to mid-50s. Winds will be east at 4 to 8 mph.
Looking Ahead
The workweek will feature a stretch of dry, cool weather to start before turning unsettled in the second half. Monday and Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine but temperatures running several degrees below normal for late-October. Highs will reach the lower- to mid-50s each afternoon, with overnight lows mainly in the 30s to near 40 degrees. Monday will be breezy with east winds gusting to around 20 mph.
By midweek, clouds will increase, and a new system will bring showers back into the region. An isolated shower cannot be ruled out for Wednesday night, but Thursday and Friday will offer the better chance of a few showers. Overall, it will be mostly cloudy, with scattered showers, and peak temperatures hovering in the lower-50s. A stray shower is possible on Saturday.
These periods of rain and cooler temperatures could be an inconvenience. Morning commuters early in the week may encounter patchy frost. Homeowners should consider covering or bringing in sensitive plants as overnight lows routinely dip into the 30s. Outdoor activities will be most comfortable through Tuesday, while Thursday and Friday may bring damp commutes. The cooler pattern also serves as a reminder to winterize homes and gardens before November’s chill sets in.

Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, Hurricane Melissa continues to strengthen. As of Saturday afternoon, Melissa was located about 130 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. The strong Category 1 had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. The storm is moving slowly to the west at 3 mph and is expected to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane Sunday.
