LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Advocates and lawmakers gathered Monday afternoon to announce new funding for repairs to the Lake Lansing Dam.
Officials say the state’s 2026 budget allocated $750,000 toward the dam, which they say will help strengthen the infrastructure of the dam to keep nearby neighborhoods and schools safe.
Advocates say the dam is essential to maintaining stable water levels, protecting the surrounding properties, supporting recreation, and ensuring ecological balance.
“$750,000 appropriation from the state to this project is very significant and very much appreciated,” said Claudia Kerbawy, president of the Lake Lansing Property Owners Association. “The county, the township, and the residents around the lake will be paying for this project, and this will go a long way into that process.”
Lake Lansing is a 453-acre lake, and it sees more than 330,000 annual visitors to both surrounding parks, according to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners. The parks provide beach access, outdoor picnic spots, ice-fishing, boating, paddleboarding, volleyball, and a public boat launch…
