Protesters to host rally at Michigan Rep. Barrett’s office against ‘big ugly bill’

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Families for Fair Care, Sierra Club Michigan, and the Climate Action Campaign will host a protest outside U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett’s (MI-07) office on Thursday afternoon to express their concerns about the bill’s impact on climate and clean energy funding.

The protest will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Participants say they will wear Halloween costumes to highlight their disappointment with Barrett’s support for the bill, which they refer to as the “Big Ugly Bill.”

“As the Trump administration has begun implementing aspects of the bill, Lansing locals are bracing for the impact of funding cuts that were tackling the climate crisis while also creating jobs and growing the state economy. Now Trump and Congressional Republicans are rewarding big oil companies and rich contributors while middle and lower income citizens suffer the consequences with dirtier air, higher utility bills and fewer new manufacturing jobs,” the Climate Action Campaign said in a news release sent to 6 News.
