The Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan (HLCOM) marked its 50th anniversary with an event in Lansing attended by more than 300 people. The event included past and present commissioners, community leaders, elected officials, union representatives, and members of the public. The gathering recognized 51 Latino Legacy Leaders, such as Hon. Belda Garza, Dr. Ruth Behar, and Angela Reyes, for their contributions to Michigan’s Latino community. Each honoree received a plaque, and their achievements were shared at the event and on HLCOM’s digital platforms.
The Commission also recognized 20 Nuestro Futuro Scholarship recipients. These students were acknowledged for their academic performance and leadership potential. The event included the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Awards, which highlighted individuals in categories like Community Service, Education, Arts, Youth Leadership, Unsung Heroism, and Lifetime Achievement.
