What started as a welfare check at a Taco Bell ended with a police chase, deputy struck

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — A 47-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly assaulting a Calhoun County sheriff’s deputy and leading law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit that ended in Eaton County, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 to the Taco Bell at 1307 NE Capital Avenue in Pennfield Township for a welfare check on an unresponsive male inside a vehicle. Responders from Lifecare Ambulance Service and the Pennfield Township Fire Department medically cleared the man at the scene.
