The trial of Reese Hammie, who stands accused of murdering Michigan State University student Oghenevwede (Wede) Okagbare in August 2023 in Howell, has begun and is expected to last about three weeks.
Hammie, 24, was originally slated for trial in September 2024 in Livingston County’s 44th Circuit Court before Judge Miriam Cavanaugh. The proceedings were pushed to Jan. 3, then May 12, then Nov. 3.
The trial covers two separate incidents that occurred in August 2023. Hammie was initially charged Aug. 11 with first-degree home invasion and domestic violence for an incident that took place Aug. 1. Those charges were filed the same day Okagbare was killed…
