Ingham County to donate $25,000 to food banks

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Ingham County Board of Commissioners will consider a resolution to provide $25,000 to local food banks.

“WHEREAS, the prolonged federal government shutdown has resulted in the loss of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding,” a resolution up for approval Wednesday night reads. “WHEREAS, Ingham County families that rely on SNAP funding for critical nutritional needs are facing a crisis due to the loss of SNAP funding.”

The resolution directs the Ingham County Controller’s Office to work with the Ingham County Health Department to determine which food bank agencies receive funding from the $25,000 allocation.
