MSU researchers test ‘bendable’ concrete that retains warmth and self-heals

LANSING, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) — Researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) developed and debuted a “self-heating and self-healing bendable concrete” on campus with hopes to keep Michigan’s roads snow-free.

According to MSU Today, developers of the concrete demonstrated its formula at an October event. The concrete was installed along Engineering Research Court outside the Engineering Research Complex off Woodlot Drive on Michigan State’s campus.

The concrete was developed by MSU’s College of Engineering Assistant Professor Qingxu “Bill” Jin and his graduate student Xiaoqiang “Antonio” Ni.

“This concrete is the future, and it could revolutionize the infrastructure for urban communities by reducing maintenance costs and for rural communities that need safer, sustainable solutions,” Jin told MSU Today. “We can’t wait to see how the concrete performs on campus this winter.”…
