Lansing volunteers honor fallen service members with ‘Wreaths Across America’ ceremony

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Dozens of volunteers in Lansing placed wreaths on the headstones of fallen service members Saturday as part of the national “Wreaths Across America” initiative, which aims to honor and remember veterans during the holidays and into the new year.

Participants were asked to lay a wreath on a designated headstone, say the service member’s name, note the conflict in which they served and thank them for their sacrifice. Organizers say the ceremony is designed to teach younger generations the meaning of service and the responsibilities of citizenship.

Guest speakers shared their experiences in uniform and reflected on the accomplishments and hardships veterans have faced. Among the volunteers was the American Red Cross, whose Mid-Michigan chapter helped honor the fallen…
