LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded Michigan State University’s Developmental Speech Laboratory $3.1 million to conduct a five-year research study that aims to understand the effects of stuttering on children.
According to MSU, the study will specifically seek to understand why some children who stutter experience more negative impacts from their stuttering than others.
“We don’t yet understand how the negative effects of stuttering develop in children because we haven’t figured out which personal or environmental factors put some kids at higher risk, or which factors help protect them,” said Bridget Walsh, Associate Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences & Disorders, in a news release sent to 6 News…
