LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A false threat was called into Waverly Community Schools early Wednesday morning, which led to a massive response by local police and the whole district going on lockdown, and, eventually, early release for Waverly High School students.
6 News spoke with Waverly students, who says despite the threat being false the fear was real.
“Well, I was definitely scared. Me and Izzy were back in the backroom shaking for like 5 minutes,” said Vivian Wolf, a junior at Waverly High. “We should have, like, regulations for this stuff so it’s not such a commonplace occurrence. I know Brown just got shot up, too, so really with that whole situation, it’s just really getting too common.”
With incidents like this becoming all the more common, it is important for school districts to have a streamlined way of keeping parents informed. In this instance, some parents tell 6 news the school called them, followed by a text and emails every half hour.
