Man gets more than 20 years for murder in November 2024 shooting

LANSING — A man who shot and killed another during an altercation involving a woman in November 2024 in north Lansing was sentenced Jan. 5 to more than two decades in prison.

Xavian Soto, who was 19 at the time, apologized for killing Braylon Shepherd, 18, during the incident on Sadie Court, in the area of North Grand River Avenue and North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Authorities said Soto had a Jackson address.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Morgan Cole sentenced him to 250 months to 700 months for second-degree murder, 15 months to 60 months for carrying a concealed weapon and the mandatory 24 months for felony firearm possession. The weapons sentences will run concurrently with each other but consecutive to the murder sentence. Soto will get 424 days jail credit on the weapons sentences…
