New report shows racial disparities, growing tension between East Lansing police and communities of color

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — In a 2024 annual report published in December 2025, the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission (ELIPOC) charts a year defined by two competing storylines: policy wins and a shrinking lane for oversight.

Oversight Commission Chair Ernest Conerly said the report was delayed due to difficulties obtaining information from the East Lansing Police Department.
