Family of Haslett’s ‘flag man’ sues Eaton County for records after his death

LANSING — The family of a well-known Lansing area resident who was found dead outside an assisted living facility last month is suing Eaton County and its sheriff’s office for public records concerning his death.

Colin Campbell, 78, known as “the flag man” to many Lansing area residents, moved into the Delta Retirement Center in 2019, a few years after his health began to decline, his son, Michael Campbell, previously told the State Journal. On Jan. 17, Campbell walked out of the retirement facility and his body was found hours later on the property, his son said.

The family has argued that there is a gap of more than two hours between when Campbell walked out of the facility and when 911 was called. The sheriff’s office has said it is investigating the death…
