Lansing City Council member living in pink-tagged home

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A Lansing councilwoman is living in a house that was recently pink-tagged because city officials say the home lacks a rental license.

Second Ward City Councilwoman Deyanira Nevarez Martinez lives in a property in the 1800 block of Shubel Ave. in Lansing. Scott Bean, spokesman for the city, said the property’s registration lapsed days before she was elected to the position on Nov. 4.

Martinez said her landlord, who lives in Arizona, “forgot” the registration was expiring. To continue the rental registration, the property owner has to schedule an inspection and pay a $395 inspection fee to renew the registration of the property.

Martinez has not been accused of wrongdoing…
